Guided Climbing Trips

Aconcagua – Mountaineering Expedition

Join Team LRCC as we travel to Argentina for a climb of Aconcagua (22,841′). This is the highest mountain in South America, the highest peak in the world outside of the Himalaya, and one of the fabled 7 Summits. After trekking to base camp (the 2nd largest in the world after Everest) we will begin acclimatizing and preparing for our summit push. All of our equipment is carried to base camp by mules so we can travel light. We follow the theory of climb high and sleep low as we move through a series of camps while ascending Aconcagua. We have also included several weather/extra days days in the schedule to allow more time to attempt the summit climb. This plan will help us to acclimatize better and greatly increases our chance to summit. The Normal Route is non-technical, but physically demanding. The climb includes all the logistics and challenges of climbing a big mountain. The altitude and extreme weather can challenge any climber. Climbing Aconcagua does require some basic mountaineering skills. Team members should be familiar with ice axes and crampons, but equally important are strong backpacking skills. This is a challenging route for any climber, novice or experienced alike and an ideal choice for those with some high altitude, general mountaineering experience such as Kilimanjaro, Mount Elbrus, and the Mexican or Ecuador Volcanoes. Mountaineering Skills Course

*We will be spending most of the trip in the mountains outside of populated areas to help protect from potential covid-19 exposure. Our Mountaineering Skills Course (Dec 15th-23rd) will give you the foundation, skills and the experience necessary to start your mountaineering career. We will travel to Ecuador and train on the slopes of a volcano, then finish our trip with a summit attempt of Cayambe. Once we arrive in Ecuador, the team will  meet their guides and begin getting geared up. We will start our trip rock climbing near Quito to help us acclimate. We will travel to Otavlo, visit the market and hike to Mojanda & Fuya Fuya (13,986′). Another acclimatization climb on Illiniza Norte (16,615′) will further prepare us for what lies ahead; two days camping on the glacier and learning skills necessary for a summit attempt of Cayambe (18,996′). This trip includes all in-country travel and lodging. A 3-month membership is included along with personal training to help prepare you for the trip. International airfare, trip & travel insurance, meals in town, and tips are not included. Mountaineering boots, crampons, and ice axes are available for rent in Quito. Trip dates TBD.
